cocktail

While you are drinking your way through our brand new cocktail list at The Deck Cafe & Bar at Batu Karang Lembongan Resort & Day Spa, don’t be shy to step out of your comfort zone and try something a little extraordinary than your average cocktail! Time to ditch the standard drinks from every neighbourhood bar, and try what we got. Designed to activate your senses, the new list is not only perfect to create Instagram envy, but the recipes are original, fresh ingredients, many of which are made in-house. The first one on the list as a must-try is the Bitter End. It’s “that perfect” thirst-quenching cocktail to sip under the hot Bali sun. Shaken with Pimm’s, Campari, & Martini Rosso, it begs the burning question: “could this actually be better than a Pimm’s jug?” Our answer is a big fat YES! No added sugar, a garnish of house-dried orange and fresh cucumber & mint, the range of flavour combinations on your palette make your eyes pop and say “wowwwww, this is a good one!” – you won’t be sorry you did. Please come visit us on your next trip to Nusa Lembongan to give us a shot….or cocktails, then shots 😉

This upcoming 28th of March, at Batu Karang Lembongan Resort & Day Spa, The Deck Cafe & Bar, The Howff Whisky, Gin, & Wine Bar & Muntigs Bar & Restaurant, we will be celebrating Bali’s “Nyepi,” or Day of Silence, falling on the Balinese Lunar New Year.

The Balinese New Year called Icaka New Year 1939, is a day of absolute silence through-out the island. For Hindu Balinese, the day is an opportunity to engage in fasting, meditation and self-introspection. The most special festive holiday is observed as a day of absolute stillness where there is no traffic at all on the roads, all outlets and offices are closed and all lights are switched off throughout the night. The streets will be closed to both pedestrians and vehicles. The Domestic and International airport as well as the harbor will be also closed.

One day before Nyepi Day at every crossroad in Bali, from villages to town or city, a ceremony is held to welcome “Nyepi”, called “Tawur Agung”, the great sacrificial ceremony. After this, the ceremony continues with a parade of “Ogoh-Ogoh” festivals, giant figures of monsters during “Pengerupukan” ceremony aimed at appeasing the evil spirits who descend to earth on this particular night disturbing the stability of peace. The purpose of this ceremonial procession is to make any conceivable noise to seek endowment to frighten away demons and evil spirits from the Island of Bali.

The highlight of the celebration falls on Nyepi day, Tuesday, the 28th March 2017. Observance starts at 06.00 am or at sunrise and ends at 6.00 am on Wednesday 29th March 2017. The prohibitions are taken very seriously by the Hindu population in Bali. The family of Batu Karang Lembongan respectfully asks that noise be kept to a minimum and respect be shown to the local traditions of this peaceful day. During this time as no movement is permitted throughout the island, access both entering and exiting the resort will be closed. The Deck Cafe & Bar & The Howff Whisky, Gin, & Wine Bar will be closed, and Muntigs Bar & Restaurant only open for in-house guests for breakfast and lunch.

Thank you very much for your cooperation in observing Balinese tradition, we are hoping you will enjoy the peace while learning something about the culture. Have a memorable Nyepi Day.

If we could be our own food reviewers, we would rate this breakfast dish as Michelin-star, but unfortunately our credentials rest with this biased Blog. The brand new Roasted Portobello Mushrooms at The Deck Cafe & Bar at Batu Karang Lembongan Resort & Day Spa is one of the newest additions to the fresh new breakfast menu, and we couldn’t wait to try it! Baked with rosemary in a cast iron fry pan, it is served with toasted pine nuts, crumbled feta cheese, and fresh house-made hummus. It is a savoury slice of gastronomy heaven to start your day on the right (fancy) foot. We have been listening to our guest reviews on this one, and we have heard a lot of “WOWWWWWWWWW”s, so that must mean we can’t be too far off the professional food-critic mark. But until we are visited by our valued reviewers, we are happy to inform (brag?) about this to you, and encourage you to come visit us on your next trip to Nusa Lembongan for some service & food spoiling. We promise you won’t be disappointed with the balance of fresh flavours and textures to satiate your breakfast cravings!
